OUR MISSION: Experiences Canada creates educational opportunities for Canadian youth to develop mutual respect and understanding through exchange programs which explore their heritage, language and community.
OUR VISION: Canadian youth with a strong sense of identity and understanding who are contributing citizens united in building the Canada of tomorrow.
THE PROJECT MUST MEET THESE OBJECTIVES:
- Contribute to increased knowledge and understanding of Canada among Canadian youth by enabling them to learn first-hand about the history, geography, industry, institutions, cultures, communities, languages and other facets of their country;
- Help young Canadians connect to one another and create linkages, across the country and between groups, thereby helping to strengthen the fabric of Canadian society; and
- Develop Canadian identity and a sense of belonging to Canada among youth by enhancing their appreciation of both the diversity and the shared aspects of the Canadian experiences.
EXCHANGE ACTIVITIES:
At least a third of exchange activities will promote an increased knowledge and appreciation of Canadian history and heritage. Experiences Canada exchanges will incorporate some of the key milestones and anniversaries leading up to Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, such as:
- 125th Anniversary of the Stanley Cup and the Centennial of the National Hockey League (NHL)
- Centennial of the Battles of Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele
- 150th anniversary of Confederation
- 50th anniversary of the Canada Games
